Stronger, higher, faster
Today marks the last day of London 2012 Olympics. It has been an exhilarating showcase of the world's finest sporting action. Gym running sessions were never dull as I ran while watching replays of diving, gymnastics, beach volleyball, weightlifting, football...
There were a few poignant moments like Liu kissing the hurdles and Phelps retiring. But there were happy ones too like the two bronze medals we have as our national day present and Gabby being the first African American to win an Olympic gold. Sometimes we demean the years of effort athletes invest in their sports by equating it to a gold, silver or bronze. But we've have always known and are constantly reminded that there are childhoods, families, joints and muscles being sacrificed for the pursuit of excellence. It is extending the limits of what the body and mind can achieve. It is the journey of being prepared for everything, training, focusing , competing and refocusing before repeating the whole cycle. So applauding all athletes, those who got medals, those who didn't and the others still steadfastly training at home waiting for a chance to shine.
It's my turn to join the 'games' now and I'm aiming for gold.
